Gilles is an associate partner in Jean-François Daber, a company based in France leading the high-level bow industry with more than 40 years of experience. Gilles is particularly demanding when it comes to wood selection, making him the perfect person to lead the procurement team as he never compromises on quality and gets the best wood in the market.
Gilles has lectured many groups of musicians and conservatory schools in Asia, US and Europe.
Background:
Gilles has worked 15 years as a consultant specialized in Corporate Strategy.
In 2005, willing to implement his ideas, he makes a partnership with Jean-Frederic Schmitt, renowned Lyon Master violin and bow maker and founder of JeanFrançois Daber.
Jean-Frederic Schmitt trains him to bow culture and making. Gilles becomes Jean-François Daber executive manager.
In 2007, he takes over Jean-François Daber together with Vincent Tricou (Master Bow Maker) and Sylvain Tocquec (Engineer). He sees to the company management, supply of finest raw materials such as pernambuco wood, hair, ebony and pearl.
2008, following the Cites classification of pernambuco, Gilles launches JF Daber Research and Development program together with different laboratories in order to find out alternative solutions to pernambuco. JF Daber works on different topics such as “the bow contribution to sound”, “the relationship between bow material and sound”, “the relationship between bow, posture and sound”, “the conditions to produce sound using as little effort as possible”, etc.
