David Loke Kai Yuan is an active performer and composer based in Singapore.
He completed his Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music where he majored in classical violin performance. He then went on to pursue graduate studies, receiving Master of Music degrees in violin performance at the Yale School of Music and in jazz performance at the New England Conservatory of Music.
As a performer, David most often performs classic repertoire as well as the normal jazz standards. He is frequently called as a chamber player and session musician. Recent works and features include a commission by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the soundtrack for the movie Strings of Sorrow which premiered at the 2019 4th International Film Festival and Awards – Macau, and featuring on an EP with Singaporean DJ KoFlow titled Tangent.
He works as a musician at the Music & Drama Company (MDC) and teaches ensemble strings at the Singapore Management University (SMU).
David is a founding and active member of musical group the Lorong Boys. He plays on a 1933 Giovanni Pistucci on generous loan from the Rin Collection. He has had the good fortune of studying with Sylvia Khoo, Lynette Lim, Qian Zhou, Ani Kavafian, Brian Levy, Jerry Bergonzi, Frank Carlburg, Can Olgun, and Tony Makarome.
