Choice of Bows for Competition
23 Feb 2023 08:00pm
A match made in heaven, the bow complements the violin in exceptional ways to create high-quality music and performances. The different qualities, materials, and build of the bow serve to produce different variations of sound that can accentuate notes and alleviate performances.
During this master class, master luthier, Ming Xi will use two contrasting styles of a maker to play on the same violin to demonstrate the differences in the sound produced. The bows featured in this session will be Sartory bows that produce robust and forceful sounds. They are a popular choice in competitions and among experienced violinists due to the fullness and sophistication of sounds produced.
Beyond that, this seminar also offers an exclusive violin showcase by our special guest violinist Yijing Jiang and she will share her experience and tips on preparing violins for competition as well as her secrets to making a performance an unforgettable one. You will also gain invaluable insights that will help you in your competition preparation and learn ways to alleviate your performance.
Currently pursuing a master's in music at The Central Conservatory of Music, violinist Yiying Jing has won over 7 competitions and has been invited to perform at many recitals and concerts. In March 2016, she was invited to perform with Paul Coletti in the first international viola teaching seminar, and in 2013 she was invited by Wing Ho, to perform at the 'My Concert Hall- Classic Foreigner Music Appreciation' program proposed by the former premier state council Lanqing Li.
